A blast of arctic air is making its way towards Alabama, and subfreezing temperatures have prompted the National Weather Service in Birmingham to issue a Hard Freeze Watch in effect from January 1 to January 3, 2018.

Tuscaloosa's latest forecast calls for a high temperature of only 30 degrees on New Year's Day; lows will dip down to near 15 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday will be cold as well, with highs hovering in the mid-30's.

Temperatures this could could cause plumbing pipes to burst or wreak havoc on plants and other vegetation. Remember to bring your pets indoors and cover any exposed piping.

...HARD FREEZE WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Hard
Freeze Watch, which is in effect from late Sunday night through
Wednesday morning.

* TEMPERATURE...will range from 10 to 20 degrees each morning.

* IMPACTS...of prolonged sub freezing temperatures could result in
  exposed water pipes freezing and possibly busting. As well as
  killing sensitive vegetation.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Hard Freeze Watch means well below sub freezing temperatures
are possible. Please take precautions for your property, pets,
and plants.
