Cancellation season has come and gone, but FOX has one last twist to inject into the 24 franchise. Sequel series 24: Legacy has officially run out the clock after one season, though the franchise will adopt a new approach going forward.

Despite giving the new iteration a high-profile Super Bowl launch, FOX officially confirms that 24: Legacy will not continue with an additional season. That said, FOX intends to work with producers to develop a “new version” with a different cast, likely to rotate additional seasons with an overall anthology format.

In addition to Walking Dead star Corey Hawkins in the lead role (though the cancellation frees his Dead character to return from that ambiguous exit) the Kiefer Sutherland-produced Legacy starred Miranda Otto, Anna Diop, Teddy Sears, Jimmy Smits, Dan Bucatinsky, Coral Pena, and Charlie Hofheimer.

There’s no denying that interest fell off after the high-profile launch, but is 24 better off following Jack’s Legacy with an array of different stories, year to year?
