In a press release, the Tuscaloosa County EMA warns of severe storms in our area headed into the weekend.

As temperatures begin to heat up across Central Alabama today, there will be a chance for some severe thunderstorms to develop, triggered by outflow boundaries moving southward from storms developing to our north. The timeframe for the best chance of severe storms will be during the heating of the day during the afternoon, lasting through the evening hours. Damaging straight-line winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall will be the primary hazards with any severe storms that happens to develop. Highs will be in the upper 80s east to the mid 90s west.

Severe storms are also possible across all of Central Alabama on Friday afternoon and evening as a cold front pushes southward across the area. The main threats will be damaging straight-line winds and locally heavy rainfall. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning will also be a concern.
