Bolder and brighter eye shadow comes down to two words: Got? Milk? Your look can stand out even more--you just need this secret weapon! Okay, maybe it's not a secret: It's NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil in "Milk." Milk is basically a big stick of cream eye shadow. NYX offers a wide array of shades of its awesome Jumbo Eye Pencil, but Milk is the one you need ASAP--it allows you to unlock the pigmented potential of your eye shadow collection.

It's kind of like color theory, but with a twist: placing a white shadow on your skin will make the color of your eye shadow stand out. Take a look at the example below--I swatched some shadows in NYX's 'Dusk 'Til Dawn' Dream Catcher Palette on my arm.

See how much more the colors pop when they've got a bit of Milk behind them? That's why I include a little application of Milk in my daily beauty routine--especially when I'm using shadows with a little shimmer (read: I heart my Naked Palettes 4Eva). This shadow trick couldn't be any easier.

I mean, it could if someone else was doing your makeup for you, but... if you're like me, that ain't happening. Sistas are doing it for themselves... Anyway. I de-pot my tube of Milk because I am an OCD freakshow. You can skip this and apply your Milk directly from the tube or put a little on your finger and dab onto your eyelid. Here's what my de-potted Milk looks like...

Yeah. I re-purposed that Nivea Creme tin LIKE A BOSS, right? I apply my eyelid primer first, and then I use the eye shadow applicator to place a tin layer of Milk across my eyelid like this...

I'm only doing ONE eye so you can see the difference. Go ahead and blend the Milk you've applied until your eyelids look like this...

Lookin' good. Please ignore my age spots. You're looking at a NO MAKEUP MEG. If I'm using a shadow with shimmer--like any of the Naked Palettes from Urban Decay--I do my eyes first. The shadows have fallout--glitter will get all up in yo face. Who has time to apply makeup twice? NOT ME. Unless I'm doing a tutorial for y'all, and that's only because I CARE. Anyway--I usually add another thin layer of Milk and blend again so I have the perfect canvas to which I can apply my eye shadow...

Once you've got your eyelids good to go, apply your favorite shadows. I used my Naked 3 Palette: I applied "Dust" to the lid, "Buzz" in the crease, and "Darkside" in the Outer V. If you're wondering what mascara I used, check it out HERE. Just look at the results you get from adding Milk to your routine!

You can see the difference-- the eye on the left had a thin layer of Milk, while the eye on the right did not. Isn't it crazy how one little product can make THAT BIG of a difference? Here's a selfie I took because why not...

30 looks good on me... AMIRITE? Yeah, I'm right.

Milk totally deserves to be a part of your regular makeup routine. NYX makes a white eye shadow primer, but I get better results using my primer AND THEN a thin layer of Milk. You can pick up NYX Cosmetics at CVS, Target (the Super Target in Tuscaloosa is carrying NYX now!), and Ulta.
