I'm thinking about starting a petition.  No, it's not for a serious matter.  I just want trash carts to come with drain holes.

Here's the scenario:

Each week, we are required to place our trash carts at the ends of our driveways, right?  And most of us are working when the trash pickup occurs, right? Well, how many times have you come home and the lid on the cart was open?  As the cart is lowered by the truck, it doesn't always close. Sometimes, it flips backwards.  Now, out of the times that it's left open, how often has it rained on your pickup day?

I don't know about anybody else, but it always seems that if it's going to rain any day of the week, it always seems to rain on the day that I have my trash pickup; and 9 times out of 10, the lid on my cart is left open, resulting in sometimes a foot of water left in the cart.

Normally, I'd just turn over the cart and empty the water.  But last week, my petty was on overdrive.  My cart was heavy!  And I muscled up and pulled it all the way back towards the house.  Put my trash in it as usual, and put it back at the end of my driveway this morning.  Luckily, I know that there is no manual labor in my trash pickup.  But if by chance, the regular truck was inoperable, the guys on the truck would have had a rough time.

Why, though?  Why subject the workers to the possibility of being drenched because of petty people like me when an engineering component of a drain hole could have been included in the process of making the cart?  Did nobody think of this and think it might be necessary? Perhaps they did but figured residents would be responsible adults and just empty the rain themselves.  Looks like I showed them! LOL
