City leaders have approved the first use of a temporary entertainment district downtown on April 9th.

The approval clears the way for open alcoholic beverages in the area surrounding this year's annual Druid City Arts Festival and the Tour de Tuscaloosa bicycle race. The area includes the event's hub at government plaza.  It also extends out over to Greensboro Avenue, and up to Temerson Square. In the other direction out to 20th Aveneue (where Innisfree and Post Office Pies are located).

It is believed the move will enhance the festive atmosphere for the events that day, helping to increase foot traffic for businesses in the downtown area.  Say you want to grab a beer from Black Warrior Brewing (or anyone selling alcohol), you could walk the streets with it.

Tuscaloosa's first entertainment district designation will be between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th.
