This B101.7 Flashback Friday Spotlight on the biggest summer song of 1999 and what it has to do with the summer of 2015.

In the summer of 1999 you couldn't go anywhere without hearing the #1 hit 'Smooth,' the Santana song featuring Rob Thomas. The same Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty fame. It had that perfect vibe to match hot months of this time of year.

This song popped into my head, as Rob Thomas has returned to the music scene in the summer of 2015. It has been 9 years since his last solo album was released and 16 years since 'Smooth' climbed the chart. New tour, album and the single 'Trust You' leads the way.

Here, give a listen and see what you think.

Rob Thomas 'Trust You'

Pretty good, isn't it? It's great to hear new music Rob Thomas. I met him once during a meet and greet in Birmingham, the guy was super nice! Some artists are really awkward around people, no Rob Thomas! He won over the crowd with his charm.

Let's flashback to not only the biggest song from the summer of 1999, but for the year and for years. What a pairing of a pair of icons for Santana's song, with him on guitar and the vocal backing of Rob Thomas!

Just how big and influential was this song? The stats as listed on Wikipedia:

It won three Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Not only was it the final number-one Hot 100 hit of the 1990s, it was also the number-two Hot 100 hit of the 20th century. Smooth is the only song to appear on two decade-end Billboard charts. As of 2013, "Smooth" is ranked the second most successful song of all time by Billboard.

Let's watch the music video.
