Labor Day weekend means the return of Alabama football and the end of summer. We're not playing games with the B101.7 Flashback Friday spotlight!

Flashing back to the summer of 1997, the Backstreet Boys released the lead single off their debut album in the U.S. The song, 'Quit Playing Games (With My Heart).'

Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, A. J. McLean, Howie Dorough, and Kevin Richardson made up the boy band formed in Orlando, Florida. Yet, it was the band's international and overseas listeners to give then their first break.

Oddly, 'Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)' became international smash an entire calendar year earlier than the U.S.

Once the summer of '97 rolled around, BSB was on its way to becoming a household name and the best selling boy band of all time.

Interesting tidbit from Songfacts:

AJ McLean asked his former neighbor Ryan Gosling to join the Backstreet Boys in their early days but he turned the opportunity down. When the group began to top the charts, the Drive star changed his mind, only for McLean to never return his call.
