Friday the 13th Luck for Christinia Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’ – Flashback Friday

This B101.7 Flashback Friday on a Friday the 13th is all lucky for Christina Aguilera with her 1999 breakthrough debut single 'Genie in a Bottle'

On this most superstitious of days Encyclopedia.com explains, "genie a spirit of Arabian folklore, as traditionally depicted imprisoned within a bottle or oil lamp, and capable of granting wishes when summoned; figuratively, an agent of power or change which is or may be released from containment."

For Christina Aguilera the genie delivered the magic of a #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100!

The then 18 year old Christina received some criticism for this former Mickey Mouse Club star, as some thought the lyrics were too race. Songfacts shares her reaction:

It is a bit suggestive, but in a positive way. It's all about a girl who's a little sassy and likes to play hard to get, but equally wants sincerity in a relationship.

An example of what she's saying comes with lyrics like this, "My body's saying let's go, but my heart is saying no."
