Tonight's forecast calls for severe storms, and if you're like me, you want a way to know when a warning is issued for your area. I'm always afraid that I could sleep through an important warning and be caught off guard. I recently found a free app that will keep you updated and wanted to share it with you.

Baron's Alabama SAF-T Net is a free download for Apple or Android products. It uses your phone's push notifications to alert you when a pertinent warning is issued in your area. You can choose up to four different customizable locations--places like home, school, or work--to receive severe weather warnings.

I currently have the app downloaded to my Samsung Galaxy S3. I have been able to set the app's notification settings so that I am informed when a warning is issued overnight. We don't have a NOAA weather radio at our house, so I really like having a way to get those overnight warnings. I currently have the notification set to a really loud, really annoying ringtone so I know I won't sleep through an important warning.

Alabama SAF-T Net is a valuable part of our family's severe weather plan. If you don't have a smartphone, you can sign up to receive text or voice call notifications HERE.
