This B101.7 Flashback Friday spotlight is on another featured artist coming to Tuscaloosa with the I Love the 90s tour! Plus, win tickets to the show!

All right stop, collaborate and listen to the story of Vanilla Ice! Before reaching superstar fame in the early 90s, Robert Matthew Van Winkle was discovered at a Dallas talent show in 1987. It lead to releasing the debut 1989 album Hooked. It was the deal with SBK Records which really put the rapper on the map.

The record company took the album Hooked, reworked it and released it as To The Extreme. The release of 'Ice Ice Baby' is historic, as it would be become the first hip hop song to top the pop music charts. It was thanks to a sample of Queen's 1980 song 'Under Pressure' which made it so incredibly catchy.

Vanilla Ice quickly became a superstar, winning Favorite New Artist at the 1991 American Music Awards!

As quickly as the rapper rose to fame, so did his decline. Vanilla Ice would never be able recreate the magic of 'Ice Ice Baby.'
