The first day of school will be here before we know it.  Most parents have already begun to prepare. For those who need a little assistance, some places have already announced where you can get school supplies.

According to United Way of West Alabama, McDonald’s will host a backpack giveaway on July 27th-29th and August 4th and 5th at the following locations: 2502 12th Street and 4711 McFarland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa.

The free backpacks will be filled with supplies for local students. Call the above stores for more details.

Also, the Tuscaloosa Backpack Coalition held its kickoff for this year’s school supply drive on Thursday, July 13th.

Through July 23rd, area residents are encouraged to participate in the Apples for Education program at Center Court in University Mall.  “Education trees” have apples of two colors. Red apples are for adoption.  They each represent an area student. The supplies on the apple are purchased and brought back to Center Court of the mall.  Green apples represent $1 toward backpack supplies. Get more information on their giveaway here.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department's Police Athletic League (PAL) will be host its Annual Backpack Give-away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm. School supplies and backpacks will be given to those children that a currently participate in the program.
