This B101.7 Flashback Friday spotlight is on Lou Bega's 1999 hit, 'Mambo #5.' The artist shares insight on the song, including all of those names he calls out.

'Mambo #5' was originally recorded as an instrumental by Cuban Dámaso Pérez Prado in 1949. Along comes German Lou Bega in the late 90s to add lyrics to the fun and catchy beat.

When you listen to the song, you know there isn't a deep story or message involved. Clearly, it's reflective on a lot of ladies which the guy likes, making it fit into a catchy melody. But, out of all these ladies, he must have a favorite. When asked that question by FOX News, he says "my favorite is Sandra, that's why she was the one in the sun." Hey, makes sense.

Here's an interesting tidbit, 'Mambo #5' was picked in 2000 as a Democratic Convention theme song. That is until someone pointed the line 'a little bit of Monica in my life.' Yes, the name of the girl involved in a sex scandal with outgoing President Bill Clinton.
