In the spotlight this B101.7 Flashback Friday is a song inspired by a cancer fight and helped spark a career for a major rock band in the 90s!

The beauty of music, the expression of a life experience for an artist. Such is the case for the song, '3 a.m.' It is known for being a Matchbox Twenty Top 3 hit in 1997 and 1998. The song ends up being the second release for the band on their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You. The first single was, 'Push.'

The demo of '3 a.m.' is credited for helping Matchbox Twenty land a major recording deal.

The group front man Rob Thomas shares the lyrics are inspired from years as a kid living with a mom fighting cancer. The good news, she is survivor!

Check out Rob Thomas talking about the song and performing an accoustic version of '3 a.m.' below.
