Today was the big day, plans for the new 'Facebook Phone' were announced by company CEO Mark Zuckerbeg. There was a tremendous amount of curiosity leading up to how Facebook would enter the smartphone market.

Introducing Facebook Home. It's not exactly a new phone, or operating system, it's more of a super app. Just think, instead of unlocking your phone and swiping over to your Facebook app and then tapping it to begin seeing what your friends are up to in the news feed and to check messages, you would unlock the phone and it would be right there. Updates splash the background for a device centered on what other people are doing. This may be the ultimate social device for the hardcore Facebook user.

The first roll out of Facebook Home is April 12th, where it will be availbale for free in the Google Play store. It will initially work on HTC and Samsung phones. Plans call for expansion of compatibility to additional Andriod phones. It is questionable if Mark Zuckerberg will be able to make Home available for the iPhone from comments he made during an interview with Wired.
