Will Storms Affect the West Alabama Christmas Parade?

The 2016 West Alabama Christmas Parade is scheduled for Monday, December 5th--and we couldn't be more excited for the fun of the biggest Christmas parade in the state! The bad news is that Monday night's forecast calls for storms--so what does that mean for this year's parade?

The National Weather Service in Birmingham's latest forecast calls for a 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms Monday night--and some of those storms could pack a punch. Take a look at the National Storm Prediction Center's Hazardous Weather Outlook below.

What will happen if we have storms Monday night? Tuscaloosa PARA already has a plan in place. Parade participants were sent the following email Friday afternoon:

PARA’s 41st Annual West Alabama Christmas Parade will kick off the holiday season as the largest parade on record. There are 155 entries, thousands of participants, volunteers and law enforcement officials involved. Fingers crossed for a break in the weather but because safety is a top priority, we are communicating closely with weather and other officials and will make a decision - to continue as scheduled or cancel due to inclement weather - on Monday, December 5 at 1 p.m.
