Grown up, separated from a bad record deal, prime for a comeback? B101.7 Flashback Friday spotlight story of a teenage artist who hit it big and basically vanished from the music scene..

Here's a story of young artist getting a break, signing a major recording deal and hitting it big. In 2004, JoJo released a self-titled album and made a splash with the pop chart topping single, 'Leave (Get Out).' At the time, JoJo was only 13 years old, becoming among the youngest to achieve such a high level of success out of the gate. The youngest solo artist to have a #1 song on Billboard's pop chart. However, the single stalled at #12 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, where Stevie Wonder holds the record of being the youngest solo artist to have a #1. Still, a significant start for JoJo.

In 2006, JoJo returned for her sophomore effort with the release of the album The High Road. Back to the pop chart she went with the lead single, 'Too Little Too Late.' This time going #2 on the pop chart and #3 on the Hot 100.

By this time, JoJo was making a name for herself with a career offering such promise. Then, the fall out with record label, and the gridlock to release new music. She talks about it during a recent interview with NYLON.

On being trapped in a record contract, unable to release new music:

I felt totally stuck and I was making the decision whether to go to college and study anthropology and sociology, or to go through with the lawsuit and try to get out and focus on the next chapter of my career... It was really frustrating because people had questions and I didn’t have answers. Even my family, they saw me, you know getting very, very sad. It was just confusing and mostly I wanted to be able to explain things to people, but I also didn't want to seem like I was anti-label or like I wasn't trying to make things work.

She's back with a record deal and ready to share new music. See her website, iamjojoofficial.com for the latest.
