It's B101.7 Flashback Friday time, and in the spotlight mon, it's Shaggy. The Jamaican reggae artist is here to deliver the late summer jam, 'Angel.'

Here's an interesting tidbit, something you can use to impress friends while hanging out, Angel's real name is Orville Richard Burrell. Yeah, now I know two people in this world named Orville. The guy famous for popcorn and Shaggy.

The world first discovered Shaggy with the mid 90s hit, 'Boobastic.' In August of 2000, Shaggy released the album Hot Shot. 'It Wasn't Me,' was the first single and hit #1. 'Angel,' the follow-up and another #1 hit, which featured the vocal of Rayvon.

'Angel' feels like a beach song. It has a warm weather vibe, along with upbeat lyrics serving as a tribute to women standing by their man, through good times and bad.

Shaggy created the beat before the lyrics. The bass line samples an artist who played Tuscaloosa Amphitheater this summer. That would be, Steve Miller. 'The Joker,' provided the bass line. Also sampled, Merrilee Rush's 1968 hit 'Angel of the Morning.'

Yeah mon, I'm feeling beach-y with a vacation in front of me, mon. Let's jam, and everything is gonna be alright. Yeah. Okay. Right.

Happy weekend and enjoy the flashback video!
